It's never a dull day taking care of the Ern-Dawg. By this point I was back at work, albeit working from home so I could still help out. I was guaranteed three months of paid parental leave by the state of Washington, which I'm very thankful for. It's such a lucky coincidence that we moved here from Missouri right before that magical benefit kicked in.
I cut open this dusty dragon egg-looking breadfruit but it was a fail.
I think the idea is that breadfruit is kind of like a plantain: more like a starchy vegetable until it ripens into a sweet fruit. I apparently didn't wait long enough to open it up because it seemed to be in its potato stage still. Even with the helpful info cards in the fruit box it was hard to tell when things were ripe. It would say things like "when it's soft" but when you have no frame of reference on what a soft breadfruit feels like there's a lot of room for interpretation. Oh well, you can't win them all.
I will grant that tree tomatoes are fun and weird.
But, they really do just taste like a tomato. Not that exciting after all.
Today I got Ernie to smile a couple times by sticking my out at him.
I'm so comfy.
