Piggy Christmas

Our big social event for the day was Gabby and Derek inviting us over to their place for a Christmas party.

We pre-partied a bit beforehand with some mulled wine at the apartment.

I'm not sure that I've addressed this kind of boring but ongoing bit of my life. While I was working on my master's degree at Regis University the federal government paused student loan payments on account of the covid emergency. I decided I wouldn't mind an interest free loan so I loaded up on as much as they would give me. There's been some political pressure on President Biden to forgive student loans as well, so I'm looking at taking on this debt as sort of a lottery ticket.

I brought the beautiful Spanish Serrano ham that I bought at Costco as revenge against Lydia trying to ruin my fun in Spain.

The thing was supposed to come with a wooden rack to cut it on but we couldn't get it assembled correctly. Oh well.

It was delicious but it turns out that normal groups of party participants don't eat entire cured pig legs in one sitting.

Wrapping this thing back up was a bit of work.

We tried Derek's Valve Index VR headset thing and had a lot of fun with it.

Leavenworth Fiber

Today we drove to check out the Christmas lights in Leavenworth, WA, a town that wishes it was in Bavaria.

It was super crowded and lots of places were out, but we managed to find some sorry naked gingerbread men.

We had some mulled wine at a few places.

I bought some rad Santa beard masks.

We went to a pretty legit seeming German restaurant called Andreas Keller Restaurant.

There was even a dude playing the accordion in lederhosen.

I got some wiener schnitzel that was pretty good, and it even had spaetzle on the side. What could go wrong.

I happily munched along, minding my own business, when I realized that one of the mushrooms was in fact a big chunk of cardboard. They comped my meal and I had already eaten most of it. Who's laughing now?

Singin' in the Rain

Today we hiked around in the rain like real Seattleites. We bought good rain jackets and waterproof shoes and now we are waterproof.

Today the location was Seward Park, which juts out into Lake Washington toward Mercer Island.

There was a man hilariously walking around in the lake with headphones on. I don't know if he was like underwater metal detecting or clam hunting or what... I've never seen anything like it.

We got lunch at Tony's Bakery and Deli which was like more Vietnamese than Vietnam.

I made some mulled wine at home to warm my body and black, black soul.
