Goodbye Boston

We'd pretty much done every last thing to do not only in Boston but in a few hour radius.

My desk this past week was a glass kitchen table and my work mouse' laser was not amused. So I had to improvise and use a pot holder as a mousepad.

A big win on this trip was all the Attleboro swag I'm going home with.

We had some fun at the airport.

Massachusetts: Pie, Swans, and Harvard

Lydia came up with a plan to go on a Boston cream pie crawl, similar to our cannoli crawl. Well some of the bakeries were the same, and after the cannoli and the donuts from yesterday I figured I must be on the precipice of some sort of sugar seizure, so... we just had one pie.

It turns out it's more of a cake with cream filling than a pie. Apparently the name dates back far enough that pie and cake were interchangeable words. Back when it was ok to be a liar, I guess.

There may have been another cannolo in the mix. I don't know.

We had a slice at the original Regina Pizza.

We headed to Boston's Public Garden on a waterfowl mission.

Boston's swan boats have been in operation since 1877. Everything in this town seems to be like shockingly ancient and full of history.

I didn't realize that the boats were powered by a human peddling in back behind the swan.

I'm not ashamed to admit that Fallout 4 was the first time I'd heard of the existence of these boats. That game is really like a tourism board's dream. If memory serves a guy took shelter from the nuclear war in like the swan boats' maintenance shed. He ended up turning into a giant mutant that your character has to fight. The mutant's name is naturally Swan, and wears swan boat pieces as armor.

The other people in the boat were pretty annoying and we were trapped with them. There were children that pretend shot everyone and everything we passed.

Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts is pretty impressed with itself. It's home to MIT so they may have a point.

We checked out Harvard campus.

Now we weren't allowed to go into any of the buildings but I was underwhelmed by the campus. It was nice don't get me wrong, but I think I've heard about Harvard being magical for so long that I was picturing Hogwarts.

Boston: Donuts and Casinos

We wanted to get donuts from this Union Square Donuts joint but couldn't fit it into our schedule. So... we had one of those delivery app people bring us one of each.

It's healthier to eat 20 donuts when you rip them up into smaller pieces first.

There were a couple few stops on the Freedom Trail that we missed on our first pass so we mopped them up today.

This is the Old State House, which served as the original seat of colonial government & later state capitol, today housing historical exhibits. It was built in 1713 and is one of the oldest public buildings in the United States.

The two figures on either side of the top of the building are a unicorn and a lion, symbols of the British monarchy. The two sitting up there are actually replicas of the originals. On July 18, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was proclaimed from the east side balcony to jubilant crowds, who proceeded to pull down the lion and the unicorn and burn them in the street.

The Boston Massacre happened right in front of the Old State House, and can be seen in the center of this engraving made by Paul Revere.

The North End was quiet lively at night. There was a ton of sidewalk dining happening.

Paul Revere's house. I read a bit about Paul Revere's midnight ride, and I thought that it was funny that on his way to warn everyone the British were coming he stopped at home to get his boots and a coat.

Trillium might be the most froo froo brewery in existence.

Whenever it gets late Lydia starts begging me to go to a casino so that the party doesn't have to stop. Since we were sort of on vacation I let her have her way. We checked out the Encore Boston Harbor. It used to be called Wynn Boston Harbor but then Steve Wynn was accused of some sex crimes and they had to change it. Bummer dude.

I like slot machines but only the ones that feature fun movies or shows. I was excited to see this Crazy Rich Asians one that I'd never encountered before.
