Pike Place Market Takeover

I was annoyed when we arrived at the Seattle Children's Museum and they told us that we had to wear masks the whole time. I was hardcore precautious during the dark days of covid but now that that time has passed I have less patience for this type of thing. I guess this is only on Sunday mornings.

This is one of those kid's places where many of the play areas are little jobs or life skills. Supermarket, post office, etc.

Learning how to climb into a killer whale's mouth safely is important too, I guess.

I legitimately have fun with the pressurized tubes thing that many of these places have. You stick in a ball or a piece of fabric and it gets whooshed through elaborate tubes and then launched out of a hole somewhere to be collected again by a child. Or by me. Whoever is faster.

I remember us being very impressed that Ernie knew what to do with a microphone. He doesn't have any toys like this at home.

I think they purposefully build this room with corners at very sharp angles to trap individuals who are unable or unwilling to move in reverse such as silly children and kangaroos.

We go to Pike Place Market all the time and while I feel like I've pinpointed a lot of my favorites I do sometimes pine for novelty. Well this time I got to go to Oriental Mart Filipino Restaurant. It's been both on my list and a lot of "must try" lists for a long time.

Ernie headed home to hang out with his Grams while the rest of the gang stayed out and about.

Can Can Culinary Cabaret is another Pike Place Market institution that has lingered on my un-done awesome stuff list for far too long.

They have a very fun, exotically decorated front room where you could easily just hang out and not do a show at all.

There are some Dolly Parton fans in our crew so this Dolly! show was what finally got us in the door.

Moreover, its original productions have been lauded by the BroadwayWorld Seattle Awards, earning prestigious titles like Best Lighting Design, Best Costume Design, Best Scenic Design, Best Dance Production, Best Ensemble, Best Direction, and Best Choreography.

But Can Can offers more than just entertainment; it provides an unparalleled culinary experience, elevating the audience's senses to new heights. Often imitated but never replicated, Can Can remains Seattle's best-kept secret, offering world-class entertainment coupled with gourmet delights.

Back home Ern was playing one of his treasured games of "stuff in the sink".

The show was decent. I'm not like dying to return any time soon but it was a fun and unique night out. I think one could be confused when the place is called "can can" but they don't really do that sort of dancing and it's more of a cabaret with jokes and songs and stuff? It was cool. 7 or 8 out of 10 I think.

We had a very memorable time at Jarr Bar afterwards. It could have been a pretty classy experience. We had some nice dry Basque cider and some nice olives and canned fish. But the staff there was a nightmare. Our server kept disappearing. I don't recall exactly the details but I do remember the impression that some coke was happening with customers in the bathroom. To her credit the server owned up to what a terrible job she had done unprompted and comped some stuff for us. When I later heard that this place closed in March 2025 I was bummed but by no means was I the least bit surprised.

We really lived our best life today and went on a legit Pike Place Market rampage. We ended the night at the Zig Zag Cafe.

Along with some finger food I ordered a:

WAX POET
ANEJO TEQUILA, AMONTILLADO SHERRY, GENEPY, APRICOT EAU DE VIE, CHOCOLATE BITTERS
