So on our drive to Ferrari World yesterday we passed by a sign like this one, and I was like "wait just a damn minute. Where'd all these other theme parks come from?!" They've definitely been busy over here lately. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi opened in 2023 but it was 2018's Warner Bros. World that really caught my eye. I had never heard of such a thing. Six Flags was always the best available immersion into the WB universe as far as I was aware so this was pretty exciting. We had a team meeting and decided that we definitely needed to visit on our second day in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The exterior was really well done and there was an adjacent WB themed hotel that I was very jealous of and wanted to visit someday.
After entering we strolled right into the Flintstones' hometown of Bedrock. As you can see from the fun clouds on the ceiling, this park is also entirely indoors. It's now the second largest indoor theme park in the world.
We didn't have time to waste so we immediately hit the Flintstones Bedrock River Adventure.
This ride was really well done I thought. The characters and the setting were all really bright and clean and gave me lots of nostalgia from the classic show. Lydia is actually a Flintstones fan so I was excited for her to see this. The boy was not allowed so we took turns.
"Take a scenic boat tour of Bedrock with everyone’s favorite modern Stone Age family. Join Fred, Wilma and the rest of the clan as they go about their day, taking in the prehistoric sights and sounds.
But wait; it’s not just any day in Bedrock, it’s the Stonetennial Celebration and there’s dinosaur-sized trouble on the horizon! Dino’s on the loose and running amok in the big parade! Warning: you might get wet, but there’s boatloads of fun to be had on this popular Warner Bros. World water ride.
Have a Yabba-Dabba-Doo adventure with the Flintstones at Abu Dhabi’s Warner Bros. World!"
Lydia was big jelly when I introduced Ern to some friends while she was riding.
The characters here were much more accessible than they are in say a Disney park, so I sprung for the photo pass and did not regret it.
Lydia briefly got stuck in line because they were having technical difficulties. Luckily she wrapped it up fast enough for some more pics with the boys. Ern is still working on his "Yabba-Dabba-Doo!"
Fast and Furry-ous Roller Coaster
Scooby Doo: The Museum of Mysteries was impressive. I think maybe the fact that the park is so new is an advantage because all of the rides were pretty slick. The cars on this one were trackless and I got the impression that different cars got a slightly different experience.
The Nutquacker Live Show
Ani Mayhem Looney Tunes Ride was one of those shoot at things on screens rides.
We were starting to run out of time at this point which was sad because I was very impressed with the DC Comics super hero zones. The Batman rides all looked very cool. Especially compared to Six Flags the theming here was so good.
We repeated back to each other "It's ok to have a big belly" numerous times long after we returned home.
I wanted a picture of Ernie flying next to Superman.
Pretty sure I nailed it.
Visiting this park was a big win. I think Ern enjoyed himself too.
We were time constrained because we had to be at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental Abu Dhabi for afternoon tea, as one does.
The place was quite palatial, I'll give it that.
"A true Abu Dhabi institution, afternoon tea at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental promises a symphony of exceptional flavours in the most elegant and photogenic of surroundings. Choose from an unparalleled selection of speciality herbal infusions, teas and coffee, brewed to awaken your palate and complement your culinary journey into Arabia. You'll indulge in artisanal sandwiches filled with luxurious delicacies and delicately-crafted French pastries, all served in an exclusive ambience guaranteed to delight epicureans."
Lydia got some fancy drink with gold leaf on it. Must be a Ladue thing.
The food came in courses but my understanding was that the tea was unlimited. I really went with an "all of the above please" approach and was absolutely chugging fancy teas.
Sadly we can't keep our teas forever. Goodbye my friends.
I'm not a coffee person but at some point I realized I could order a golden hot cocoa. So I did that.
That was a lot of fun and a very unique experience. I can now obnoxiously poo-poo other afternoon teas. "Where's the golden cocoa?!"
Luckily I had saved room back on board for the cocktail of the day.
It wasn't a bad way to spend Ern's first Christmas Eve.
