To Infinity

Today we went to one of our sneak peek free movie screenings, this time at the Regal Thornton Place theatre.

 

The movie on offer this time was Toy Story spin off Lightyear and the Buzzheads were out.

I heard some hate, especially from douchebags over a lesbian kiss between two old ladies, but I thought it was a decent movie. Pixar doesn't generally miss in my experience.

The Wrath of John

When a disaster stretches on as long as covid-19 has, you have a lot of time to try and ponder the bright sides. One is that I suddenly have a good reason to go to more drive-in movies. Skyview Drive-In in Belleville, IL is the closest so when they have a good upcoming line up I pay attention. A nice thing about the drive-in is the snack smuggling possibilities are endless. Frequent go-tos of mine are popcorn and boxed wine.

I invited Seago and Nora to accompany me on this journey through entertainment of extreme quality. Seago was like "can we really sit through two Star Trek movies back to back?" and I was like

Ferris at the Drive-In

Lydia made us a baller dinner. This belongs on a magazine cover or something.

We once again did the long drive to Starlite Drive-In.

This time we saw the classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

These movies are always double features but... that's a lot of movie for one night. Footloose will have to wait for another time.

Star Wars Sneak Peek

Every once in a while I go on an Eventbrite event binge and sign up for a bunch of weird stuff. I don't know why but people seem to think it's ok to put their private events up there exposed to the public. Anyway I've been to a couple of company Christmas parties where I didn't know anyone from the company! I'm a bad bad man. I was pretty excited when I saw this screening of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Not only was it free but it was a day before the movie was released to the public.

The reason for the event was like a mini tech expo where you meandered to different booths and schmoozed until they gave you schwag. Luckily Seago was in attendance to deal with anyone who got too technical.

One of my presents was this little lightsaber keychain.

There's no business like tech business.

There were some nerd trivia questions while we waited for the movie to start.

There was celebratory hookah afterwards while we pondered the vagaries of sith clones.

Hawaii Trip Preparation

I blew a big chunk of the last of my ill gotten JetBlue miles on a business class flight from California to Hawaii. I'm not wild about Hawaii but Lydia's always wanted to go there. Well today we did a little bit of preparation so that we won't be overcome with culture shock when we land in Oahu.

We made a boozy ice cream concoction with a volcano name for refreshment.

We also watched the so-bad-it's-good Elvis flick Blue Hawaii.

Howard Thompson of The New York Times called the film "blandly uneventful" with a "nonsensical and harmless" plot, though he wrote that Presley "delivers the songs and rhythmical spasms right on schedule. We counted fourteen tunes, about half of them replete with ukulele trimmings and exotic, weaving dancers. One of them, a number called 'Beach Boy Blues,' is nifty, and Presley delivers it accordingly. No kidding."

The little Hawaiian man servant's name was unfortunately Ping Pong.

Well I haven't read the guidebook yet but I think it's safe to say we are both ready to head to Hawaii.
