Halloween Warm Up

Bobae is always a good idea.

Decisions decisions

Lately I've been rocking the matcha latte with boba.

The official place to drink one's Bobae is looking out at Lake Washington and contemplating the universe.

Lydia and I got Flintstones costumes for Halloween this year. I took mine out for a test drive tonight with some friends in Seattle.

I cannot resist a grungy arcade bar.

Add-A-Ball is so weird and dirty that they have these weird half bottles of Miller High Life.

The statue of Lenin in Fremont was looking festive.

The night devolved into a very long walk, sometimes in the wrong direction, to another bar that was guaranteed to be better than Add-A-Ball. Spoiler: it was not. It was an amusing journey though. We passed by Last Call Bar, another weird place, but in a "I don't think I need to return here" kind of way.

Halloween Party at Club Rep

Lydia found us a sweet Halloween party sponsored by Webster University's Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.

It was awesome for multiple reasons. First of all, every single part of it was free. I was a little hesitant to get excited about it because it was so cool that I figured that there must be some kind of catch.

Not only did they have a ton of complimentary snacks, but they had a theatre company's production values. Everything looked like a lot of care went into making it. I mean who among you has seen such a beautiful tray of cinnamon rolls with icing made to look like intestines?

I was also excited because it meant I could wear my hotdog costume again.

You see, "In economics, fixed costs, indirect costs or overheads are business expenses that are not dependent on the level of goods or services produced by the business. They tend to be time-related, such as interest or rents being paid per month, and are often referred to as overhead costs. This is in contrast to variable costs, which are volume-related (and are paid per quantity produced) and unknown at the beginning of the accounting year. For a simple example, such as a bakery, the monthly rent for the baking facilities, and the monthly payments for the security system and basic phone line are fixed costs, as they do not change according to how much bread the bakery produces and sells. On the other hand, the wage costs of the bakery are variable, as the bakery will have to hire more workers if the production of bread increases. Economists reckon fixed cost as an entry barrier for new entrepreneurs."

"In management accounting, fixed costs are defined as expenses that do not change as a function of the activity of a business, within the relevant period. For example, a retailer must pay rent and utility bills irrespective of sales. In marketing, it is necessary to know how costs divide between variable and fixed costs. This distinction is crucial in forecasting the earnings generated by various changes in unit sales and thus the financial impact of proposed marketing campaigns. In a survey of nearly 200 senior marketing managers, 60 percent responded that they found the "variable and fixed costs" metric very useful."

As we descended the stairs from the lobby there was a girl handing out free jello shots that came in syringes. This was my kind of place.

Someone went to the trouble of sticking googly eyes onto all of these cups!

The music was rad as well. There was a DJ but at times he would play the sax over it. Insane that this was free.

Pumpkin vomit veggie tray? Check.

There was a free tarot card reader!?

Vinny the Shark

Zoe needed some attention so she bought matching Halloween costumes for herself and Vinny the dog.

A couple of days earlier we did a dry run.

Then it was time for the big game. Howloween was the most prestigious Halloween dog costume parade and contest in southeastern University City. It was make or break time, and Vinny knew it.

We gave Vinny a pregame walk, as is part of his training regimine.

The Moonrise Hotel was the site of the showdown.

We got there a little early.

We saw pretty quickly that there was some stiff competition. This Pennywise the Clown and Georgie from IT were especially disturbing.

A demogorgon from Stranger Things.

Vinny strutted his stuff so well that we thought we had a chance at victory.

We were wrong.

While Vinny's shark impression was panned by critics, the audience loved it. He ended up winning a pretty cool prize pack due to all of the Instagram love he received.

Halloween: Tower Grove Style

This year for Halloween we mixed it up a bit and did a Halloween bar crawl in Tower Grove.

We wore the best costumes at Target that not very much money could buy: hotdog and praying mantis.

I did come correct with the hotdog jokes though.

What did the Buddhist say to the hotdog vendor?

Make me one with everything.

Joel wore his Nebraskan tuxedo. I'm not convinced he even knew this was a costume party.

Steph and Neil had a pretty great Macho Man and Slim Jim costume that won a prize. Fittingly the prize was in the form of a pro wrestler looking belt.

Found some kindred spirits.

We met up with Viry and Lolo and Le French at some point. They were multiple drinks ahead of us.

They were dressed up like Batman villains.  Here some of them are sleeping on a pool table, as is the custom in France. I think one of them knocked over one of those free standing heater towers. Good times.

"If someone asks if you are a god, you say, 'yes!'"

We ended on a high note: delicious bar food at Stella Blues. I distinctly remember Le French knocking over someone's drink and getting yelled at here.
