Newton County Historical Museum

The Newton County Historical Museum is walkable from the apartment. Enough said.

The building used to be the sheriff's house which connected to the county jail. There were still a few remnants of that visible.

I tried not to make eye contact with that lady.

They had the requisite war memorabilia on display, but I'd say the most interesting part for me was the strawberry artifacts. Apparently the area used to have a large strawberry industry. Today, California dominates with 80% of the total U.S. strawberry production. I wonder what happened.

I think these were given to the strawberry pickers as they picked, which they would then redeem for money at the end of the day. All of this ticket redemption sounds like a very un-fun Chuck E. Cheese.

I'm sort of obsessed with the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair so it was super cool to see this silver medal awarded for Neosho strawberries.
