Laumeier Sculpture Park

Today we took a stroll in Laumeier Sculpture Park. I like a good stroll anyway and so having some interesting sculptures to look at while I do so is just a cherry on top.

This one reminded me of cutouts of revolutionary leader Augusto Sandino that were all over the place in Nicaragua.

Tell you what, watching an ant with some eggs/larva to take care of is a heck of a lot more interesting than watching an ant take care of nothing alone in a glass tube.

Sunflowers for Days

Columbia Bottom Conservation Area in St. Louis County planted a field of sunflowers and since it's still Love in the Time of Covid we had literally not one other thing to do but go and check them out.

A lot of the cool kids have been posting their sunflower pics so here goes.

There were aggressive bugs swarming this place. It was a real chore standing still long enough to get a few shots and then run back to the car before my sweet, sweet flesh was devoured.

A Stroll Around Fort Belle Fontaine

Today we explored Fort Belle Fontaine, which is currently part of the St. Louis County park system. The fort is significant for being the "first U.S. military installation west of the Mississippi, in the newly acquired Louisiana Territory, and served as a starting point for many expeditions to the American West".

We got a new automatic hand sanitizer dispenser in our apartment building. This is the sort of thing that we get excited about these days.

My Apple Watch has a function where it will let you tell your phone to take a picture remotely. One issue is I don't have a tripod so my pics are all low to the ground. Hmm... I'll have to think of some improvements.

I've been wanting to take a picture with the giant Vess bottle for a while but it's kind of in an awkward place by the highway. Well now that the world is over we had plenty of time to walk on over.

More Cemetery Exploring

We continued our quest to find nice places to enjoy the outdoors that were far away from other people. Our visit to Bellefontaine Cemetery was a win, with lots of space and close to zero people. We continued our cemetery theme with a visit to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

This was a military cemetery after all. Even in death, there were a lot of rules to follow.

Notable residents include two Medal of Honor recipients as well as 123 victims of the Palawan massacre. As the Allies advanced in the Japanese-occupied Philippines, Japanese herded American POWs into buildings and then set the buildings on fire in order to stop them from being rescued.

You know what, I think this is meant to be an insult, but I'm gonna allow it.
