A Murdery Thirty

Lydia turned 30 so we threw her a 1920s themed murder mystery birthday party. I was worried that people wouldn't be into it or would be annoyed at having to dress up, but our friends came to party. Some of them bought whole costumes just for the affair.

I bought Lydia this fancy custom cake from a friend of a friend. I think she liked it.

My character was a really cool mob boss and I had several henchmen running around. I was so busy setting up for the party and sneaking around with the flamingo cake that I didn't have time to fully read my instructions and so had only like half of an idea about what the hell was happening. I definitely wish I had a do-over. Oh well.

I may or may not have fallen asleep early and been trolled while slumbering.

Riverfront Times Iron Fork

Today we worked at the RFT's Iron Fork event at City Museum.

"As one of the largest food events in town, Riverfront Times' 12th Annual Iron Fork offers a chance for St. Louisans to try 30 of the tastiest local eateries in one night! Tickets include unlimited samples from each restaurant and drinks including beer, wine and craft cocktails. Guests will also enjoy admission to City Museum, music, plus the marquee of the event, the heart-pounding Culinary Throwdown with a celebrity judging panel and the Mixologist exhibition."

Maybe under the "while supplies last" nature of the food and drinks it made sense to show up early, but man was it annoying. A ton of people came earlier than they were supposed to and we just made them stand outside.

VIP tickets, which as staff we effectively possessed, were $70 each.

Moved Out, then St. Patrick's II

We moved out of our place in Vangard Lofts for greener pastures... two blocks west. It was my first loft and I had lots of good times there. Sad to leave but I'm excited about the future.

It's amazing the internet worked in this building at all.

St. Patrick's Day is fun because there are two different parades, usually on different days. So even after I walked in the downtown parade I could be a spectator at the Dogtown parade. Bases covered.

A friend of a friend was having people over to their Dogtown house. Fun and beer pong were partaken in.

Prohibition Day at Anheuser-Busch

Anheuser-Busch likes to make references to Prohibition, and the brewery tour and visitor center have many references to the diesel engines and the ice cream and everything else that the company made during Prohibition to stay afloat. Well now the people behind the Budweiser brand are trying to push Prohibition Day as a holiday and of course another occasion for people to have a beer.

I’m a history nerd in general and I’m particularly interested in Prohibition so… fake holiday away AB! Whatever it takes to have a happy hour on the 8th floor, I’m in.

Both of the entrances of the building had these "we want beer" signs posted.

The were reminiscent of Prohibition protest signs.

The constitutional amendment that repealed Prohibition was ratified on December 5, 1933.

As you would expect they had twinkies on sticks and a chocolate fountain, just like in the 1920s!

I liked the old tap handles that they dug up for the event.

Some of the sales team were even dressed in old timey clothes.

Budweiser was also sponsoring some Prohibition Day events out in the real world. One of them was fittingly hosted at the downtown Thaxton Speakeasy. It’s a really nice space and like two blocks from our apartment so you know that was a yes for me.

There was free beer, there was free food. It was fun.
