Zoe and I went on a little self guided bar crawl today. We hit some good ones too.
Pine Box
From their FAQ:
What exactly is The Pine Box?
The Pine Box is a craft beer and cocktail bar with a full-service kitchen on Capitol Hill — housed inside a hauntingly beautiful 1920s funeral home and chapel. The soaring vaulted ceilings, mortuary columns, and church pew booths set the scene. Our bar and table tops are made from wood reclaimed from the building’s original coffin vaults — history you’re literally drinking on top of.
Dark, moody, and unapologetically Capitol Hill. The result is one of Seattle’s most atmospheric bars — the kind of place that feels like it has a few stories it’s not ready to tell.
Is it true Bruce Lee’s memorial was held here?
Yes — before it was a bar, this building was one of Capitol Hill’s prominent funeral parlors. Bruce Lee’s memorial service was held here in 1973. We honor that history throughout the space. It’s one of the things that makes The Pine Box genuinely unlike anywhere else in Seattle.
They had some fun spooky cocktails in addition to a million beers on tap. This was a:
Witches Brew
Tequila, Agave, Blood Orange, Cinnamon, Pomegranate, Fog, Tarot Card
Velcome to my parlor
Montana was described as a "Western-themed hipster bar with cocktails on tap & craft beers served in small, log-lined environs."
The Doctor's Office was super fun. It's a very small place and I saw them tell at least two walk-ins to beat it.
WORD FROM THE DOCTOR
Thanks for stopping in! Some people ask if it's a contradiction to be a doctor and a bar owner, and while I clearly don't think it is, I do want you to be able to make informed decisions about your drinking As such, each cocktail has a parenthetical note of how many grams of alcohol it contains. While one "standard drink" in the US is considered 14g of alcohol, most cocktails have appreciably more and I want you to be able to plan accordingly to maximize your enjoyment.
What you tell your doctor, on the other hand, is up to you. Cheers!
- Dr. Matt
I was impressed that they had a bottle from the River Antoine Rum Distillery in Grenada.
The bathroom was really fun. In keeping with the doctor theme there were some xrays you could check out while washing your hands.
We stopped for some Dino's Tomato Pie on the way home. It was quite a night.
