Goose Jurassic Park

We did a hike around a lake in Cuivre River State Park that was surrounded by wild flowers. I had to stop every few steps to take more pictures! The park began as a federal rec demo area in the 1930s created by the CCC and WPA.

I was impressed by how tall these plants were.

I found this cool snake skeleton.

We stopped by Hannibal, Missouri to do some fence whitewashing.

You can never get enough Mark Twain.

The six lakes of Wakonda State Park near La Grange, MO were created when Ice Age gravel deposits were mined for use in road surfacing. They were a great place to do a little kayaking.

Our campsite at Wakonda was very nice and right next to the water. But a predator lurked nearby.

There were geese everywhere and they were not very afraid of humans. You could tell that they had played this game before because they kept checking the fire pit for fallen food.

I find it kind of reassuring that the State Park Rangers are on patrol while we are asleep in our tents.

Goodnight Sweet Mustache

Well the world is still over. Let's go to a park!

Well I had used my quarantine time to grow a fabulous Hulk Hogan style horseshoe mustache that was the envy of all.

Alas, even work of art mustaches must someday come to an end.

Grillin’ like a villain at Sam A. Baker State Park near Patterson, MO. At the park you can grill things like burgers, corn on the cob, and bananas that you stuffed full of marshmallows and chocolate chips.

We played a little frisbee.

Ooooh they were really tempting me with that patch for an 11 mile hike. 

Lake Wappapello State Park near Poplar Bluff, MO, about 5 minutes before it started raining. The lake was created when, beginning in 1938, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dammed the St. Francis River for flood control.

The Graffiti Wall

We rode our bikes out to the Graffiti Wall that keeps the Mississippi River from eating the city.

We watched the movie adaptation of Out of Africa. I read the book while on my own personal quest to get out of Africa.

Meryl Streep and Robert Redford are apparently really old.

Katy Trail Blazing

We took the bikes out to ride at Katy Trail State Park.

It was romantic the way the setting sun reflected off of this Missouri junkyard.
