The Preseason Blues

Today we went to a preseason Blues game at the newly re-christened Enterprise Center. Scottrade got eaten so that's the end of that. I don't think I knew that preseason hockey was a thing. It seemed a heck of a lot like season hockey to me, and if no one had told me I'm not sure that I would have known the difference.

Our seats were respectable.

But I think because it was preseason there were a lot of empty seats around. So we... appropriated some seats that were much closer to the action.

Which was good because there was a lot of action. Sure there was the usual hockeying around with the sticks and the skates and the what have yous. But there was also a whole lot of fights. Like 8. I don't know if there was some beef or what was happening.

We grabbed some Lime Scooters to charge and rode them home. Boom.

We went to a polo match. There were horses and balls hit with sticks.

Hawaii Trip Preparation

I blew a big chunk of the last of my ill gotten JetBlue miles on a business class flight from California to Hawaii. I'm not wild about Hawaii but Lydia's always wanted to go there. Well today we did a little bit of preparation so that we won't be overcome with culture shock when we land in Oahu.

We made a boozy ice cream concoction with a volcano name for refreshment.

We also watched the so-bad-it's-good Elvis flick Blue Hawaii.

Howard Thompson of The New York Times called the film "blandly uneventful" with a "nonsensical and harmless" plot, though he wrote that Presley "delivers the songs and rhythmical spasms right on schedule. We counted fourteen tunes, about half of them replete with ukulele trimmings and exotic, weaving dancers. One of them, a number called 'Beach Boy Blues,' is nifty, and Presley delivers it accordingly. No kidding."

The little Hawaiian man servant's name was unfortunately Ping Pong.

Well I haven't read the guidebook yet but I think it's safe to say we are both ready to head to Hawaii.

Love Beer Fest

Today we were in attendance at the aforementioned Love Beer Fest 2018. It turns out we really do love beer.

For some reason there was a petting zoo.

There was free beer ice cream! One was chocolatey and made with Goose Island Bourbon County Stout and the other was not and was deeply, deeply inferior.

Clare Dunn played a couple tunes in the Clydesdale stables. She's a country artist so I had no idea who she was but she sounded pretty good.

Porta potties so fancy they had bidets.

Michelob Ultra had a tap handle that made you work for your beer.

Lydia's dad is still walking the Appalachian Trail, also known as the Tallahassee Trail by certain as of now curiously unindicted stupid presidents. Anyway Devil's Backbone has a Trail Angel weiss, and they donate some of the proceeds to conserve the trail. We had one in his honor.

By this time things were getting weird.

Shots of coleslaw were downed.
