Red Scare

The wonderfully cheap and indirect flight Lydia and I took from New York to Moscow to Istanbul in late May was on Transaero, Russia's second largest airline. Well now maybe 4 months later they have gone bankrupt, their buyout plan with Aeroflot fell through, and they are due to simply shut down operations any day now.

According to an ABC News article here that bargain basement ruble that we were super stoked about has Russians less excited about international travel and the whole Russian airline industry is suffering.

An effect of US sanctions or the curse of Lydia? I'll let you decide.
